Botched patches are the worst. Developers spend hours, days or weeks on them, players are excited about them, but when they are released they only cause turmoil and excitement. Ideally, they'll just screw up something small, something trivial that very few people will notice and that you can fix after the fact next Patch. But sometimes it's worse. Sometimes you accidentally fix a bug. You think it only ever happens to other people, and then it happens to you.
That's exactly what happened with Palworld's latest patch, which you may remember because it boosted the letter F and crashed the nail economy. Besides everything intended Patch notes, a damaging additional fix has crept in: A bug that had allowed players to “capture the tower boss” has finally been “unintentionally fixed.”
“We apologize for accidentally fixing a bug,” Palworld developer Pocketpair wrote on Twitter.
Due to various bugs we fixed in the last patch, we unintentionally fixed a bug that allowed players to capture the tower boss. We apologize for accidentally fixing a bug.February 27, 2024
It is natural pretty funny However, for a developer to apologize for a patch that unintentionally fixes a bug, it starts to make sense when you look deeper into the details. The bug, which Palworld's 0.1.5.0 patch accidentally fixed, is a popular exploit that allows you to kidnap the friends who act as the game's tower bosses, like Axel and Orserk. As bosses, they're a pretty powerful group of guys, or er, buddies. We even have our own article that explains how to do it. Rest in peace, sweet prince.
The sudden removal of the ability to kidnap her (and not even including a patch note about it, whatever was a coincidence) was probably a grim surprise to the Palworld power gamers out there.
However, I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for Pocketpair to restore the exploit. It Was After all, it's a bug, and there are generally patches to fix bugs (unless you're Hitman). I think Pocketpair is more apologetic for the lack of warning than for the existence of the fix itself. Don't worry, I'm sure someone will soon find an exciting new exploit to exploit, or even modify this one again.
Palworld players excel at finding exploits. Whether it's the Beetle that lets you carry 9,999 items, or the Beetle that lets you mount indefinitely and then slaughter the same helpless creature for parts of it, crimes against God and decency are heard never on. No wonder this thing has 25 million players.
