It's unclear whether 2022's People's Champion will ever slow down: right on the heels of an Among Us crossover DLC with space maps and enemies in December, Vampire released Survivors yet another free content update.
Content patch 1.9.0, also more aptly titled “Space 54,” maintains the intergalactic atmosphere with a distinctly ’60s rayguns and spandex thing. We'll be playing as the “only” Space Dude, an onion-headed little idiot with a ray gun and a Rictus grin, while the other character, shown briefly at the end of the trailer, must certainly be some sort of Space Dude Space spirit with stored serial numbers.
Vampire Survivors' free content updates are understandably less extensive than the paid DLC, but in this economy a $5 game with $2 expansions and free stuff in between is a precious, precious thing. If you've already purchased Vampire Survivors in Early Access, this delightful little asset has only increased in value in your Steam library, like some kind of priceless work of art.
I loved Vampire Survivors back in my October 2022 review of the game upon its full release, but even before that we watched in awe as it took Steam by storm, the shooter's deceptively simple “bullet heaven” gameplay style and the pleasantly familiar one Castlevania atmosphere made it just the perfect place to unwind and enjoy. An excellent one Noclip documentary Published last year, the book tells the amazing story of how Vampire Survivors saved its developer from the purgatory of working on games and other dispassionate projects.
In addition, Poncle was also released a new trailer for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth– and apparently there's more to come for Vampire Survivors. What follows is the wonderfully blurry, somehow even narrower than 4:3 video a current trailer for FF7 from 1997 almost blow for blow in the engine of Vampire Survivors. “How much of what you see in the trailer is actually real content for Vampire Survivors is left up to speculation,” the video description teases, but I'm betting that at least some of these new sprites and areas in the game are cutscenes and a glimpse Another anime-style cinematic trailer is coming soon.
