It's not often that I get the opportunity to use Australian forces in a war game – barring that Emu war! I guess – but the new Commonwealth tech tree in World of Warships adds Australian ships like the Cerberus alongside cruisers from various Commonwealth nations, including the New Zealand cruiser Auckland and the Indian Delhi.
The Commonwealth Tech Tree is part of March Update 13.2, which also includes a Commonwealth Team Event Pass with a number of unlockable rewards, including camouflages and historical commanders Harold Farncomb and Leonard Murray. It is the first event pass to replace daily missions with weekly ones.
Next month, World of Warships will host an April Fool's Day Piñata Hunt event in which two teams of seven ships each will compete to sink a special Piñata ship – presumably with torpedoes and turrets instead of baseball bats. The Piñata Hunt takes place on a spruced-up version of the Hotspot map, and players can win Piñata Tokens that can be exchanged for camouflages and a commemorative flag.
To celebrate the Commonwealth's expansions, World of Warships committed to a donation of AU$10,000 to the Australian National Maritime Museum. The museum’s deputy director, Michael Baldwin, said: “We thank Wargaming for their generous support. Over the past few years, we have enjoyed our engagement with the World of Warships game by participating in live online events showcasing museum research and objects to new, global museum audiences, such as during Museums' Longest Night . Gaming offers new perspectives on our maritime heritage and opens up new possibilities for storytelling.”
