If you, like me, think Final Fantasy XIII is a elite-level FF series, then I have good news for you – you are 100 percent right and you have excellent taste in games. Pat yourself on the back, you legend.
If you don't believe Final Fantasy XIII is one elite-level FF series then, um…well, that's a bit awkward. Yes, I have nothing… sorry. Maybe just leave this article and read PC Gamer's report on the other best deals in the 2024 Steam Spring Sale.
Unbelievers left? Let's move on to the other good news: The entire Final Fantasy gal!) and want to relive these adventures now, or if it's a series that originally passed you by, now is a good time to jump into the epic Immerse yourself in the Fabula Nova Crystallis world.
I personally have all three Final Fantasy Gaming in general. I have some buying tips below for those new to the series, but first here are the details on the offerings.
My buying guide for the Final Fantasy XIII series
As far as buying advice is concerned, I can actually only pass on one piece of wisdom here. If you've never played any of these games, don't start with Lightning Returns. This isn't just because you came to this game without experiencing the story beats of the previous games (which you can easily do in YouTube compilations if you need to), but rather because it's a very complex game that combines an astonishingly open design with a strict and oppressive Doomsday Clock game-over mechanic. Without going into details of the game to avoid spoilers, the fact is that in Lightning Returns you only have a set number of days to beat the game and win, and if you don't, it's game over .
Failure unlocks a cool (and much-needed, unless you're using a guide) New Game Plus mode, allowing you to have another try but enter the game with all of your skills and equipment, which is obviously huge is helpful. But of course you will then play through good parts of the game and its story again. While Lightning Returns is my personal favorite of the trilogy, its strange structure and assumed knowledge make it the wrong place to start. I would suggest starting with XIII or even XIII-2 (which takes place three years after the original game) first.
The last few interesting points about these PC gaming versions of the XIII series: They offer a number of PC advantages that the original PS3 versions never had, such as better frame rates and resolutions, tons of DLC content and whatnot What I like best: Unlocked Japanese voice acting with English subtitles (the perfect combination in my opinion). By the way, these discounts are available until March 21st, so if you're interested, I'll grab it while the iron is hot. Enjoy!
