We are already two days old free week for Rainbow Six Siege, Ubisoft's long-running multiplayer version of its even longer-running tactical shooter series. The free week runs until Thursday March 21st, while you can get the game forever for just $4 (85% off) until Wednesday.
We're in the ninth year of this shooter – a Methuselah in live service terms – but if you listen to Morgan Park, PCG's multiplayer FPS expert, Siege has never been better. Changes to favor disadvantaged attackers, a tasteful toning of environmental destruction to limit defenders' view of bullet holes, and tweaks to a still-quite-complicated weapon attachment system all help keep the game sleek, exciting, and surprisingly unique years after release is.
It also looks like Siege is here to stay for some time: the director recently threw some shade at competing multiplayer FPSs while dismissing speculation about a “Siege 2” or some other form of sequel: “I won't name any names call.”, but you see games go through sequels and just completely drop the ball. Now I assumed that Alexander Karpazis was referring to Overwatch 2, but others on the team immediately jumped to Counter-Strike 2 – perhaps this quote is some kind of Rorschach test from an FPS lover?
So a $4 investment in Rainbow Six Siege looks set to pay off for some time to come – assuming you have fun during the free week. You have until Wednesday March 20th to take advantage of the sale price, while the free week lasts one day after that.
