After a long and certainly eventful development, the four-player cooperative action role-playing game Secrets of Grindea is available to the public after about a decade. A decidedly old-school game, Grindea is intended to be a homage to and parody of the SNES gaming era, but with a length, depth and variety only found on modern hardware.
The release includes around 300 different characters to meet, fully cooperative gameplay for four people, customization options to combine 31 skills, around 30 boss fights and a ton of mini-games: “Design your own home, fish, craft items tame pets, participate in mini-games and grow plants. In addition to the story mode, there is also an arcade roguelite mode.
Secrets of Grindea first reached early access status in 2015 and spent nine years there – with demos before that. Now that it's released, the developers plan to do a few bug fixes before tackling a New Game+ mode.
I checked, and PC Gamer covered Grindea back in 2014, with writer Tom Sykes calling it “nostalgic, loot-obsessed, and a whole lot of fun.” This was actually playing the demo that appeared before the early access release in 2015. “There doesn't seem to be a release date yet, there's no idea how long the wait will be,” he said. And uh, boy, hello, I certainly had no idea about that.
“Thank you to everyone who has accompanied us on this crazy journey and for all the encouragement and feedback given to us to make this game what it is now – after a total of 13 years (!!) Development time – and thank you very much.” and welcome to all the new players who will help make it what it ultimately will be!” said Pixel Ferrets in a Steam post about the release, noting that while Early Access had only begun in 2015, development had technically begun years before.
You can learn and purchase Secrets of Grindea directly from the developers on its official websiteand you can find it Modest, GOGor steam.
