In 2017, indie studio Runner released Duck Bomber Crew, a game that we said wasn't quite a version of the World War II starship sim FTL, but was pretty close – a cartoonish management game where you have a Mission has to be completed and a team of experts helps until you accidentally lose an engineer over the English Channel and everything gets a little stuck.
In 2020, Runner Duck Bomber Crew followed up with an even closer game called Space Crew, a game where you're just juggling plates instead of plates in which you're actually juggling Star Trek redshirts, and also gravity just failed. The “Legendary Edition,” which includes a new campaign, away missions, and an unlockable Legendary Crew, is available for a total of zero Space or Earth Dollars steam until March 13th.
The giveaway is to promote Runner Duck's next game, Badlands Crew, which lets you build and operate your own adorable Mad Max war machine for tactical post-apocalyptic shenanigans. The studio has found another genre for chaotic good times, one that involves a giant, repurposed truck full of weapons, fuel tanks, and possibly an extremely loud playing musician, racing through a wasteland while fending off attacks from rival gangs. There are also sandworms.
Badlands Crew is set to release later in 2024, and that's possible Wish list it now.
