It's good when RPGs give your companions a little freedom of choice, but in the case of Baldur's Gate 3's Minthara, one of your more dastardly pals, a mistake caused her to take this to the extreme and sometimes refuse to follow the group, and sometimes she refused to follow the group. Leave it. Make a decision!
At first it was pretty difficult to even get Minthara to team up with you unless you were an evil bastard who hates peaceful druids and refugees, but Larian has made it a little easier for you to recruit her since release. However, not everything went smoothly for Minthara Stans. She's still causing trouble, and Larian has a problem where she sometimes stops following the party in Acts II and III, which isn't really what you'd expect from a companion. Meanwhile, when she was supposed to leave the party after being escorted out of the Moonrise Towers, sometimes she just didn't.
Both issues have been addressed in the game's latest hotfix, as explained in the Update post.
“Was Minthara perhaps exercising a little too much independence? We fixed an issue where everyone's favorite drow would simply decide not to follow the party in Act II or Act III. You should find that she is now at least more willing to join in when it comes to keeping up. She’s still something of a free spirit.”
The hotfix also includes some crash protections and a number of other bug fixes. Check out the full list below:
- Some crash protections have been introduced to ensure that you are returned to the main menu if a save fails to load.
- Fixed some issues that caused the second player to have a black screen for 30 seconds in split screen.
- Fixed a bug that prevented you from opening containers (like the Camp Supply Bag) during trade if you selected a character other than the one who initiated the trade. This also fixed an insidious money exploit.
- Fixed a bug that caused the environment to never take a turn and blocked combat progression.
- Fixed a bug that caused you to get stuck in combat if there were some bats left after defeating Cazador.
- Fixed an infinite loot bug that caused Herdmaster Skardjall's scale armor to be duplicated each time the whipstick was removed from his body.
- Fixed a bug that caused the crime dialog for trespassing next to the Steel Watch Foundry to be spammed.
- Fixed some banding and shader issues in cinematics that resulted in VFX artifacts on faces at certain angles.
- Fixed an issue where Minthara would sometimes not follow the party in Act II or Act III.
- Fixed a bug where Halsin would not move to his location when you arrived at Last Light in Act II.
- Fixed an issue where Minthara would not leave the party after being escorted out of the Moonrise Towers.
- Fixed an issue that caused characters to tell you they were too busy to talk to you when you tried to talk to them. You lied.
- Fixed missing tab textures in trading UI.
- The filter tabs for merchants when trading with them have been hidden. These will be reintroduced in a future update pending further testing.
- Fixed a possible crash when preloading complex cinematics.
