If you've ever approached a new save file in The Sims 4 with a goal in mind – be it becoming a world-famous chef or a Sim serial killer – there's a good chance you've done it without too much trouble. Your Sim's entire life, building a career or starting a family, can happen in just a few hours. I wish real life were that easy, but I often look at my family of experienced Sims and ask myself, “Now what?”
This is where Sims Challenges come into play. These player-created rulesets can add a bit of meaning and motivation to your playthrough, giving you some clearly defined goals and limitations in case the standard Sims experience keeps you safe.
Although The Sims 4 now has official challenge modes called Scenarios, Sims players have been making their own rules for years. Over the course of The Sims' nearly 25-year history, players have created and overcome countless challenges, ranging from the mundane to the charming to the downright disturbing.
Here are six of the best across the board (with no mods or expansions required!).
Rags to riches challenge
Rags to Riches is perhaps the most popular challenge in The Sims 4, and for good reason – it fulfills almost every player's goal of raising rich Sims. To challenge yourself in Riches to Riches, start a new game, send your Sim to an empty lot, and use it Sims 4 cheats to delete every last Simoleon from their bank account. (Ctrl+Shift+C to open the cheat console and the code “Money 0” is the quick and easy way.)
From there, you can couch surf, shower at the gym, and carve your way to financial freedom. Or, if you're feeling particularly sneaky, you can steal, lie, and cheat your way there. No judgement.
Technically, the whole challenge is finding a way to get rich. If you want more structure, The rules of SnootySims It's about achieving a series of goals, such as becoming a homeowner, starting a family, and pursuing a career. Are you looking for additional difficulty? Try to make money only in your chosen path that is not your career, such as painting, gardening, or stealing. SimishGamer, who credits SnootySims with the original challenge, also has a more difficult version called Mega Challenge from rags to riches.
100 Baby Challenge
While the 100 Baby Challenge is a little boring and disturbing, it's a classic test of endurance that fans have embraced since The Sims 2. It has been changed countless times over the years to keep up with new games and expansions. The main goal has remained the same over time: to have 100 babies with only one matriarch per generation.
Sims have fairly short lifespans and the challenge rules prevent you from having a child with the same Sim twice. That means it can be a bit difficult to achieve in less than a few generations, not to mention the terrible conditions you'll likely create for your poor Sim babies. But if you're looking for an even bigger challenge, then you've come to the right place The original Snarky Sims rulesetTry adding a few occult children into the mix and keeping their status secret from outsiders.
Legacy Challenge (and its many variations)
The Legacy Challenge has spawned the most variations of any Sims 4 challenge. You start this challenge in a similar way to “From Plates to Riches” – alone and in an empty lot. The difference is that your goal is to create a family and grow it through a certain number of generations, which is more of a test of family ties than financial growth.
The original Legacy Challenge is a great choice on its own, but most players choose another option, and there is one much choose from.
- Keep your family alive for 26 generations Alphabet Legacy Challenge
- Make your way through 10 colors and defined personalities in Not So Berry Challenge
- Experience history (and the invention of new technologies) in Decade-long challenge
- For a much faster pace, there is this Nightmare Legacy Challenge Here you have to complete an objective, reach level 10 of your career, have a child and max out 2 skills across 10 generations, all while playing with short lifespan.
Black Widow Challenge
If the 100 Baby Challenge sounds tempting but is still a little too wholesome for your cold-hearted tastes, the Black Widow Challenge is for you. In this challenge you will settle into the city, develop a romantic relationship and have the wedding of your dreams. Beautiful or? Don't get too attached, because you'll get caught cheating on your spouse, killing them, and marrying the Sim you cheated on, only to cheat and kill again and again.
Continue the cycle until you reach a milestone of your choice – some goals players have added over the years include these Collecting 10 spouse graves or Maximize your charisma and cooking skills before deathThe latter is probably intended to easily attract new victims.
Runaway Teen Challenge
Similar to “From Riches to Riches,” the “Runaway Teen Challenge” requires you to start out broke and search for resources. This time as a teenager on the run, which comes with more restrictions. Because you're afraid of getting caught, you can't work, go to school, use your phone, or talk to adults.
Instead, you have to fend for yourself using the same techniques as in Rags to Riches, only with a lot more difficulty and waiting time to grow up. As detailed in The rules of Stormy Dayz Gamez, it's best to forage for food here and work in the garden until your Sim's birthday approaches. Then those limitations fall away and your playthrough essentially becomes a slightly different version of From Riches to Riches, only with a slightly sadder backstory (but a much greater sense of achievement).
Apocalypse Challenge
The Apocalypse Challenge features one of the most detailed rulesets in The Sims 4. After an apocalypse, your Sim's career determines what role they play in rebuilding society. However, once you start, things get pretty difficult for a while. Accordingly the original rulesYou'll have to work your way to the top in each career before you can remove the restrictions associated with each career, whether it's not being able to sell items from build mode until you become a top investor or forcing you to have babies and that you will be banned from showering (yikes). until he grew into a top reporter.
It's a difficult challenge, but if you're ready to rebuild Sim society, there's a detailed guide Evaluation sheet This allows you to track which of the challenge's many limitations still need to be overcome.
